Description

This course is designed to equip the student with advanced knowledge in the application of descriptive and inferential statistics in public health. The  focus will be on need and uses of statistics in public health and medicine. Specific topics include, concept of the variables, graphical and diagrammatical presentations of various data, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, basic probability concepts and distribution, testing of hypothesis for single and two means and proportion, Analysis of variance. This course also emphasizes on the importance of correlation, correlation coefficient and regression (linear, logistic and other non nonlinear) in analysing public health data. The importance of data reduction and application of principal component analysis also included. This course will help students to develop advanced skills in analysing and interpreting data from Health, Allied Health, Public Health settings.

Upon completion of the short – term course Applied Biostatistics students can be rised as a Data Analyst, Biostatistician, Research Analyst, Data Scientist etc. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment growth of biostatisticians will be much faster-than-average by 34 percent. Approximately 10,100 statistical positions are expected nationwide through 2024.
